Exploring the Most Iconic Cafés in Paris

ASMALLWORLD

Walk through the streets of Paris and you will understand why it has been named one of the most romantic cities in the world. With cafés, restaurants and bars bursting out onto the streets and trays laden with fresh coffee and pastries, “La Vie est Belle” rings true. Our editors have curated a list of the best historic cafés in the city.

Les Deux Magots

This iconic institution opened in 1885 and has been serving a slew of literary guests ever since – including Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir. The café is located at the intersection of Sain-Germain de Prés and Rue de Rennes, where you’ll see a large sign paying homage to the café’s most renowned regulars.

LES DEUX MAGOTS

Esprit Saint Germain

Stay just minutes from Les Deux Magots at this boutique hotel. With just 28 rooms, the Esprit Saint Germain offers an intimate yet elegant base in the 6th arrondisement. After a day of sightseeing, you can find us enjoying a complimentary drink (served in both onsite bars each day) in the cosy Fireplace Lounge.

Café Tournon

This café acted as a community hub in the 1950s for expat creatives (such as Duke Ellington), and today serves delicious food and drink accompanied by live music performances. Enjoy an espresso before exploring scenic Montparnasse and Luxembourg Gardens.

Le Metropolitan

Stay just steps from the Champs Elysées at this quintessentially Parisian hotel. At Le Metropolitan you can enjoy a refreshing dip in the indoor pool, before relaxing in the Eiffel Tower suite – which offers idyllic views.

Café de la Paix

Dine in style at this opulent brasserie, where Napoléon III interiors meet five-star gastronomy. Take a closer look and you might recognize the café from Disney’s 'The Aristocats’. This 19th century institution is situated in the heart of Paris, placing you within walking distance of the city’s top sights.

Hotel de Crillon

Extend your lavish Parisian experience by staying in none other than an 18th century palace. Hotel de Crillon’s magnificent building was commissioned by Louis XV, and you too will feel like royalty in the opulent guest rooms. Book one of the 10 signature suites – two of which are designed by Karl Lagerfeld – for an extra indulgent stay.

Café Procope

Apparently the ‘oldest cafe in Paris’, this 17th century establishment is well worth a visit. Enjoy a coffee on the scenic cobblestone terrace area or coincide your visit with one of the café’s regular events.

As an ASMALLWORLD Member, you will have exclusive access to Café Procope’s ‘Gourmet Afternoon Break’ event as well as the full list of Paris hotels on the ASMALLWORLD Collection.
