The rooms are reasonably sized – we hesitate to use the word “spacious” to describe just about anything in NYC – and are decked out with bold art, geometric-patterned carpets and vibrant, city-centric accents. Best of all would undoubtedly be the views which look out at Broadway, Times Square or the city at large.
The hotel has two restaurants and a bar, all of which are worth checking out once or twice. Mind you. don’t dwell at the hotel’s restaurants, though, as the surrounding streets boast an almost infinite number of world-class eateries. Blue Fin is the hotel’s modern seafood restaurant: a sophisticated – and mercifully quiet – venue that spans two levels with a sushi bar at street level and a cocktail bar above. Dos Caminos is a vibrant Mexican affair, also occupying two floors with a convivial Mezcal and Margarita bar on the street level. Dos Caminos is an excellent place to start an evening, as is The Living Room Bar: another welcome respite from the surrounding the hustle and bustle, made it even better by the live DJ and excellent cocktail list.
In line with New York City’s ethos of being “The City That Never Sleeps”, the fitness centre at the W is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Called FIT, it’s good-sized and well-equipped – though the cardio machines seem almost redundant, given how much exercise guests are bound to get by exploring the city on foot.
