Set within a 620-acre nature reserve in Mexico’s magnificent Yucatan Peninsula, The St. Regis Kanai Resort, Riviera Maya is a luxurious beachside escape inspired by the stars. Located on a natural mangrove sanctuary and neighbouring the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Sian Ka’an Reserve, this indulgent hideaway offers guests a memorable opportunity to experience the boundless natural beauty of the region.

The Pleiades constellation served as the inspiration behind the resort’s unique architecture, which is the eye-catching handiwork of Edmonds International. Viewed from above, the circular structures look almost like avante-garde crop circles; on the ground level, they allow the resort’s different components to effortlessly flow together. 124 guestrooms and nineteen suites come in a large variety of options to choose from, and most (though not all) accommodations feature views of the water. Within, the spaces blend contemporary luxury with inspirations from the ancient Mayan world. Luxe interiors highlight natural materials, many of which come from the Riviera Maya itself – we particularly like the marble sink basins in the attractive bathrooms and gorgeous carved walnut wood headboards. Each of the rooms is elevated by the presence of either a plunge pool or a private terrace (or both), and some of the suites feature perks like outdoor bathtubs and hammocks.

Guests will be spoilt for choice at mealtimes thanks to the resort’s vibrant assortment of restaurants, each of which offers its own distinctive ambience and cuisine. Local ingredients sourced from Quintana Roo create the Middle Eastern cuisine found at Chaya, which is open every day for both breakfast and dinner. Latin American flavours and an eclectic ambience can be found at Toro, while the smart-casual Riviera features a blend of Mexican and Mediterranean. On the top floor, the sophisticated St. Regis Bar features constellation-inspired cocktails and Asian-Fusion bites, while Jack’s Club is an adults-only, American sports bar type affair. Also reserved for adults is The Beach Club, which is a fabulous waterfront experience with a catch-of-the-day approach to dining.

In addition to the abundance of adventures to be had locally (if you’ve ever wanted to explore cenotes or visit an underwater museum of art, you’ll be in the right place), the St. Regis offers plenty of ways for guests to fill their days. Lounging on the beach or by the pools is an obvious choice, but you’ll also find Sunset Sabrages, Bloody Mary Rituals, a Secret Garden begging to be explored and a magnificent spa inspired by ancient astronomy.
