Set at the base of the iconic Aspen Mountain is North America's only W Hotels Alpine Escape. Called The Sky Residences, this boutique, 11-unit establishment brings a new brand of contemporary alpine luxury to Aspen with its fabulously playful interior design and mountainside access to some of the best skiing and outdoor adventures the continent has to offer.

The Sky Residences’ interiors are a refreshing departure from traditional Alpine design. Gone are the patchwork quilts and stuffy bedrooms, replaced by an aesthetic that is colourful and chic. The overall effect feels like a blend between a Swiss chalet and a Swedish pied-à-terre with just the right dose of 1970s-Aspen-inspired nostalgia. Wooden floors underfoot, tastefully rustic accents and marble coffee tables lend a natural cosiness to the spaces – a feeling which is amplified by the crackling fireplaces. Vibrant flower arrangements and stylish jewel-toned couches liven up the living areas, as do whimsical accents like the Bob Ross-inspired room plates. True to their name, these accommodations do feel distinctly like residences, making them perfect places in which to recover and relax after a day spent on the slopes.

Dining at the residences is an elevated affair, with three dynamic venues in addition to private culinary teams ready to create bespoke meals in the privacy of your own unit. The indoor-outdoor Living Room is tucked directly on the base of Aspen Mountain and serves globally inspired sharing plates with an emphasis on local ingredients for all meals of the day. 39º is an underground cocktail bar and grotto that serves stellar drinks and delectable Asian-fusion cuisine in a dining room inspired by Aspen’s hedonistic past. When the sun is shining, head up to the rooftop to visit the après-ski hotspot known as WET Deck. This snazzy spot is equipped with a pool, hot tubs, private cabanas, fire pits and a full bar to go with its awe-inspiring mountain views.

Naturally, the hotel's proximity to world-class skiing is a definite draw, but the winter slopes are only the beginning of adventures to be had. The warmer months bring about all kinds of opportunities for outdoor experiences, from paragliding and rock climbing to whitewater rafting. Though it seems practically criminal to work out indoors in a place like this, bad weather workouts can be enjoyed in the Residences' state-of-the-art FIT Fitness Center.
