The Ritz-Carlton, Aruba is the perfect fly and flop destination. It’s the last hotel on the island’s stretch of beach, and it’s without a doubt the classiest and nicest, offering everything that’s needed to make holiday dreams come true. With rooms, restaurants, shops, a spa and a 24-hour, 15,000 sq ft casino on the premises, you’ll probably decide to stay put right here at the hotel for the duration. And we wouldn’t blame you; Aruba as a destination doesn’t have much to offer other than the weather (which is guaranteed to be hot whatever the time of year).

The property’s soft yellow exterior is a sunny contrast to the azure water and white sand of the gorgeous beach that’s idyllically dotted with sunloungers and parasols. Inside, the elevated and vast marble lobby welcomes guests in true Ritz-Carlton style: sweeping views of the Caribbean are the first thing you’ll see, along with beachy decorative items like chandeliers made of driftwood. There’s a handsome sunken bar in the lobby, but more on that later.

Choosing between the 320 rooms will be far easier than deciding which trinket from the jewellery store in the lobby you just can’t live without. Entry-level rooms are generously sized at 550 sq m (52 sq ft) and come with Nespresso machines, sofas, desks, large balconies and bathrooms with double vanities, tubs and separate showers. And if that’s not enough, the top-of-the-line Ritz-Carlton Suite on the highest floor has a wrap-around balcony with an outdoor shower, sun loungers, a hammock, a living room and Club access. Taking a room with the Club benefits, whatever your category, gets you loads of goodies like free breakfast, drinks (alcoholic and otherwise) and generous nibbles throughout the day and evening.

Dining here is a pleasure, starting with the lobby bar that also serves sharing plates of delicious sushi and other favourites like quesadillas and mini burgers. There’s an Italian restaurant where you can choose to dine indoors or out, and the steak restaurant is a definite favourite.

Work off any overindulgences in the gym, or take it outside with a serious swim in the beautiful pool (adult’s only; there’s another one for families) and take a cabana for the day. Otherwise, non-motorised watersports are available for rent: paddleboarding, windsurfing and kitesurfing may be of interest. After which, a few hours in the spa should help you unwind for the evening ahead which may include a few hands at the gaming tables if that’s your thing.
