A very welcome new addition to England’s luxury hotel scene, The Peninsula London is already making a name for itself as one of the city’s poshest getaways. Located in the heart of Belgravia, everything about the hotel is as enviable as can be: from its indulgent accommodations and lavish amenities to its prestigious address on Grosvenor Place – an address that places it alongside Hyde Park Corner and Wellington Arch.

As the 157-year-old brand’s first British outpost, The Peninsula London is designed to impress, which it succeeded in doing from the first. Its location is an enormous boon: the surrounding neighbourhood is drenched in history, with iconic landmarks like Kensington Garden and Buckingham Palace just steps away. The new-build property is thoughtfully designed to compliment the heritage that surrounds it, and interiors are an impeccable blend of influences old and new.

Inside, everything oozes luxury, with not a single detail overlooked from tip to toe. The atmosphere is stylish and timeless (credit to Peter Marino for that), an ambience which extends to the guest rooms. Every single one of the 190 spaces is generously sized, with even the entry-level rooms beginning at 51 square metres. Already massive by London’s standards, accommodations only get larger from there, with the hotel’s finest option – The Peninsula Suite – spanning a staggering 470 square metres. Interiors are light-filled and lovely, set in wood, crisp ivory and soft pastels. Bathrooms are beautiful, everything is cleverly high tech and enormous floor-to-ceiling windows frame views of the city beyond – many of the nicer options look out over Hyde Park, Wellington Arch and historic Belgravia.

Given that this is London, you’ll have no shortage of dining options within steps of the hotel, in addition to seven options for food and drink within. The Lobby opens early for breakfast and stays open for all meals of the day, Afternoon Tea included. Refined and airy with soaring ceilings, this spot is worth a visit even just for the hand-painted de Gournay murals and live music played on a grand piano. Canton Blue is an attractive spot for authentic Cantonese, while modern British fare can be enjoyed at Brooklands. A handful of bars include mixology-focused Little Blue and a cigar lounge to boot. In a pinch, grab a coffee and pastry from The Peninsula Boutique & Cafe.

When it comes time to unwind, the wellness amenities at the hotel are fabulous. Expect a serene wood-panelled spa, a subterranean 25-metre swimming pool and an elevated fitness centre that’s open 24 hours a day.
