Set smack on the Bosphorus waterfront in the historic Karaköy district, The Peninsula Istanbul is a fabulous new addition to the city’s already impressive collection of luxury hotels. Opened in 2023, this hotel comprises a collection of four buildings – all of them beautiful, and three of them historic. Arrive by land or by sea to this superlative getaway, which is perfectly located for enjoying all the best sights, sounds and food that Istanbul has to offer.

Within, 177 rooms and suites are spread across the four waterfront buildings, offering a wide range of variety to choose from. Every space embodies the timeless elegance for which the Peninsula brand is so known. In this iteration, you’ll find high-contrast black lacquered accents set against shades of white and grey, alongside kilim-style carpets and mother-of-pearl inlays, which add a distinct sense of place. High-tech mod-cons abound, and many – but not all – rooms feature fabulous views of the Bosphorus through floor-to-ceiling windows. Many of the finer options have balconies and private terraces, while the Peninsula Suite – both the finest accommodation at the hotel and quite possibly one of the best in all of Istanbul – features a baby grand piano, a private hammam and a 120-square-metre rooftop terrace with views that have to be seen to be believed.

Two restaurants and as many bars make up the gastronomy scene at The Peninsula. Chef Fatih Tutak’s Turk-Asian cuisine is the highlight at GALLADA, with a menu inspired by the flavours of the ancient Silk Road. Spectacularly located on the hotel’s rooftop, GALLADA’s menu showcases bold flavours in dishes like wood-fired monkfish and tuna with tahini, tomato and yuzu. Dine indoors or out, or head to the restaurant’s second-floor Topside Bar, which offers good music and even better cocktails. For afternoon tea or Mediterranean-influenced fare at any time of day, visit The Lobby: an elegant space with double-height ceilings beyond which guests will find a garden-surrounded outdoor terrace. Refreshing drinks and both cold and hot tapas can be enjoyed at the Abelia Pool Bar, which flanks the dazzling Bosphorus-front swimming pool.

In addition to the outdoor pool, The Peninsula offers a 25-metre indoor swimming pool surrounded by Marmara columns. Nearby, you’ll find a spacious, 24-hour fitness centre and The Peninsula Spa and Wellness Centre, which is a tranquil haven dedicated to all things indulgent.
