Service in an Oberoi can be categorised as probably the finest, most meticulous you’ll ever experience, starting with your arrival. As you pull up to the porte-cochère, you’ll be greeted by several doormen, elegantly dressed in traditional Indian apparel, including turbans. Enter the rather nondescript building, and you’ll be dazzled by the gleaming marble and polished brass. The public areas, decorated with Indian antiques, contemporary artwork and artefacts, are very glamorous, indeed.
There are 220 rooms, 34 of which are suites, that all have polished teak floors, Italian marble bathrooms, Nespresso machines and free WiFi. Everything is controlled by an iPad, including the black-out roller blinds that cover the vast windows that offer some spectacular views, the higher up the better, of course. Bathrooms have all the amenities you’d expect, including mirrors with inbuilt TVs, bathtubs and separate showers. The jewel in the crown is the vast Kohinoor Suite that comes with a gym, study and therapy suite, to name just a few of the highlights.
Wake up to a traditional Indian breakfast in bed or at the 360 Degrees restaurant that is open all day for all meals. The food in the hotel is exceptional, as is the service, so wherever you choose to dine, expect the very best. The two other restaurants, the Indian and the Chinese, are both overseen by celebrity foreign-based Michelin-starred chefs. There’s a lobby bar and one on the rooftop that’s ideal for a nightcap. It’s open till 4 am on the weekends, perfect for night owls or anyone who’s jetlagged, and there’s both music and food on offer.
The hotel has both an indoor and a large outdoor pool as well as a spa that boasts ayurvedic and other treatments, saunas, steam rooms and yoga classes daily. There’s a fabulous hairdresser on site (ask for a head massage with coconut oil) and a well-equipped gym.
