Guest rooms at The Josie Hotel eschew traditional alpine aesthetics in favour of a more polished, contemporary vibe. Within, all 106 rooms and suites are handsome and just the right amount of moody. Rich shades of mocha and grey combine with cream-coloured tufted headboards to create a palette set predominantly in neutrals. Jewel-toned accent pillows, small potted plants and mountain-inspired artworks add a dash of liveliness to the spaces, and good-sized windows let in plenty of natural light. For the best that the hotel has to offer, book the ‘Josie’ suite: there, you’ll enjoy plenty of legroom, a private balcony and superlative views of the mountain.

The Velvet Lounge & Restaurant is the sole eatery located within the hotel itself – fortunately, it’s a good one. A regionally inspired menu elegantly upgrades hearty alpine fare with dishes like seared scallops, hoisin five-spice pork belly and red wine braised lamb shank. Dessert means comforting favourites like Basque cheesecake and warm sticky toffee pudding, and the locally inspired drink menu is superb. Speaking of drinks, a convivial ‘après ski’ is hosted daily on the patio, which is made all the better by the sweeping mountain views.

Skiing and snowboarding are just the tip of the iceberg as far as activities are concerned at The Josie Hotel, which include plenty to suit every guest, no matter the season. Warmer weather might mean zipline, stand-up paddleboarding, fly fishing, disc golf or – if you’re particularly brave – participating in the 50-kilometre Broken Goat Ultra Race. Colder months bring about plenty of opportunities for fat biking, snowshoeing and cat-skiing, in addition to traditional downhill adventures.
