About the hotel
"Set in what was once a Gothic church, The Glasshouse Edinburgh boasts contemporary guestrooms and a two-acre rooftop garden to go with its enviable location in the heart of the city."
Upon setting foot in your guestroom, your eyes will be immediately drawn to the floor-to-ceiling windows and to the dramatic views beyond. All rooms enjoy these enormous windows, some have private terraces, and the choicest of all boast direct access to the hotel’s two-acre rooftop terrace. Rooms themselves are warm and contemporary with neutral colour schemes complemented by plenty of natural wood. Decor is attractively modern and the rooms enjoy plenty of natural light thanks to those fabulous windows. Suites are impressive and feel more like stylish residences than hotel accommodations. The Lady Glenorchy suites are the largest of all and enjoy corner locations alongside dazzling backdrops of Calton Hill. All accommodations are well-appointed with plentiful amenities, including spacious bathrooms and Nespresso machines which come standard.
A full Scottish breakfast is served each morning in the hotel’s Brasserie, while afternoon tea, drinks and all other meals of the day can be taken in The Snug. This ambient space – which is located in the physical heart of the Glasshouse – is a cosy and bespoke affair with a crackling fireplace and an excellent selection of nearly 100 Scotch whiskeys. The crown jewel of the hotel is its roof garden which spans two acres and is resplendent with greenery (yes, the grass is real). Lounge with a book on a deck chair under the sun or enjoy a cocktail picnic-style in this truly special space which feels like a well-kept Edinburgh secret.
The hotel’s prime location is tucked between the city’s historic Old and New Towns, so you’ll have an abundance of variety as far as attractions go. Speaking of attractions, many of Edinburgh’s most famous spots are within walking distance of the hotel, and a short taxi ride will get you to the rest. The ancient Edinburgh Castle is a must-visit, as is Calton Hill: a UNESCO World Heritage Site depressingly nicknamed “Scotland’s Disgrace”. The 350-year-old Botanical Garden is also well worth a visit, as is the Scotch Whiskey Experience where you’ll find the largest collection of scotch whiskey in the world.
