The Eliza Jane began its life as an amalgamation of New Orleans warehouses, one of which housed the printing press of the famous Daily Picayune newspaper. It was there that Eliza Jane Nicholson became the country‘s first female editor of a major American newspaper, thus transforming herself into a national icon who would later lend her name to the fascinating hotel that now stands here. The charming brasserie-style Couvant Restaurant combines contemporary French fare with a good dose of the Southern soul for which the city is so famous: delights include mouthwatering dishes like burgundy escargot and consommé en croute.
