Jumeirah boasts several of the world’s most impressive properties, including Dubai’s iconic Burj Al Arab, the neighbouring and relatively new Jumeirah Al Naseem and this stunning property, The Carlton Tower, located in the heart of London’s Knightbridge district. Closed completely in 2019 for more than a year, the hotel reopens in late 2020 having wrapped up a massive renovation engineered by London’s renowned design studio 1508.

It would be a long, long list should we name all the new upgrades and additions, but highlights of this 60-year-old property’s rebirth include a reduced room count to 186 (more suites were added, many with balconies). The lobby has been refreshed beyond recognition of its former self: a bespoke light installation set within the domed ceiling looms over comfortable seating areas, perfect for people watching. The spa, gym and restaurants have been revamped, so come prepared to be dazzled, even if you loved the former version.

Rooms, including the entry-level variant, are spacious and offer on-trend amenities like pillow menus, Nespresso machines and Dyson hairdryers. All categories have a balcony version, and many in this seventeen story building have superb city views. Expect the finest cotton sheets, comfortable furnishings that include a desk and velvet-covered armchairs (sofas in the suites). Soft shades of beige and brown are offset by one colour per room, a soft blue, green or deep red. Marble bathrooms are light and bright, and we love the amenities by Grown Alchemist. Go for a room facing Sloane Street if you a city slicker; if not, opt for one overlooking the lush greenery of Cadogan Gardens.

Rain or shine, you won’t need to use the weather as an excuse to spend some time in the new Talise spa where London’s largest swimming pool – 20 metres long – is an enticing way to get some exercise. Follow your dip with some time in the sauna or steam room, and book in for a treatment while you’re here. The fitness club, too, has been revamped and is a great place to work up a sweat using the state-of-the-art equipment – with the help of a trainer if you’re so inclined.

The all-new dining scene is as exciting as the rest. Al Mare, a modern Mediterranean restaurant with a theatre kitchen is well worth a visit and includes specialities and favourites from everywhere in the region including Lebanon, Italy and Spain. The Chinoiserie is an all-day lobby lounge and bar; don’t miss ‘cake-o-clock’, an afternoon tea concept that’s sure to please everyone of every age.
