"An exclusive, all-villa resort set on an atoll once owned by Marlon Brando, The Brando boasts luxe accommodations, inspired dining and absolutely magnificent views."

Tetiaroa is French Polynesia at its finest. A dreamy atoll comprising twelve islets around a spectacular lagoon, this is a place of unspoilt natural beauty; about as close to heaven on earth as you can get. Given this, it’s easy to see why iconic actor Marlon Brando bought Tetiaroa in 1966 to serve as an escape from Hollywood life. Formerly a playground for stars of the silver screen, Tetiaroa underwent a transformation in 2014 to become The Brando: an ultra-luxurious resort in a magical setting.

The Brando’s natural surroundings are nothing short of breathtaking, and the resort endeavours to match that majesty. Just 35 villas decorate the beachfront, and all are simply spectacular. The resort’s limited occupancy means that each villa enjoys the luxury of space; so much of it, in fact, that it often feels like you’re on your own private island. The resort’s limited occupancy means that each villa enjoys the luxury of space; so much of it, in fact, that it often feels like you’re on your own private island. Beneath thatched roofs, the villas’ interior design is a homage to the surrounding environment; expect a warm palette of earth tones with an abundance of natural materials throughout. Full-wall windows open up to furnished private terraces (with swimming pools) and thoughtful additions include separate media rooms and al fresco bathtubs. Best of all, the beach is just steps away.

Speaking of the beach, it’s magnificent, and there’s no shortage of ways to experience it, whether on land or in the water. Explore the lagoon in a kayak or on a stand-up paddleboard, or venture below the waves with scuba lessons. Deep-sea fishing is another opportunity to get out into the open water, while tennis, biking and excursions led by naturalists offer plenty of ways to stay active on land. Get in touch with the local culture through Polynesian dance lessons and weaving lessons, or merely head to the spa and unwind with a rejuvenating treatment (or two).

Dining at the resort is a delight which is perhaps unsurprising given the abundance of fresh ingredients produced by the surrounding land and sea. The flavours of Japan are brought to the resort at Nami Teppanyaki which boasts three stellar menus featuring the bounty of the land, the sea or both. The intimate Les Mutinés is a romantic, elegantly tropical spot for a date night dinner (and comes with a world-class wine cellar to boot), while Bob’s Bar is a relaxed spot with an easy-going ambience. Beachcomber Café fuses Polynesian-inspired dishes with classic French fare, while the sultry Te Manu Bar is a magnificent place to end the evening with both a nightcap and unforgettable sunset views.
