Getting to the private island is something of an adventure unto itself, and will necessitate either a five-hour car ride or a domestic flight that clocks in at a little under an hour. Song Saa’s far-flung location also lends an air of privacy and exclusivity, a feeling which extends to each of the resort’s villas. Accommodations are divided into Jungle Villas, Ocean View Villas and Overwater Villas; all are truly wonderful, but we’re inclined to favour the Overwater Villas most of all. Beneath thatched roofs, each villa is an oasis of luxurious serenity. Gorgeous Maldivian-style design characterises the contemporary interiors, which are designed with an emphasis on the use of natural materials to create a one-with-the-earth atmosphere. Bathrooms are indulgent, four-poster beds are dreamy and the private outdoor spaces are to-die-for – particularly in the overwater options.
Dining at the island is a delight, with an abundance of globally inspired options that benefit from the rich bounty of the surrounding land and sea. You can expect to feast on the bounty of local fishermen as well as on produce grown in the resort's own tropical gardens. At Vista Bar and Restaurant you’ll find everything from Western comfort food to local favourites, all in a postcard-worthy setting overlooking the water (and the oversized bean bags are a nice touch). To enjoy more stellar views – this time with your toes in the sand – visit Driftwood, which serves superb pizza, light bites and excellent cocktails. For a particularly memorable meal, the resort offers “Destination Dining:” simply choose your favourite location on the island and enjoy a bespoke meal with your loved one beneath the sun or the stars.
Though you may well find yourself just wanting to kick back and relax during your stay, there are a plethora of things to see and do both in and around the resort. Expect everything from snorkelling and sea kayaking to in-villa movie nights, Buddhist ceremonies and rejuvenating treatments at the resort's heavenly spa.
