A brand-new addition to Italy’s luxury hospitality scene, Six Senses Rome is giving well-heeled travellers a new way to experience la dolce vita. Opened in March of 2023, this luxurious getaway is the brand’s fourth outpost in Europe and is the very first Six Senses property in Italy.

Location is everything for a holiday in Italy, and Six Senses – thankfully – has a fantastic one. Set in a grand palazzo building at Piazza di San Marcello, the hotel’s address places it in the heart of ancient Rome: cherished landmarks like the Pantheon and the Fontana di Trevi are mere blocks from the front door, while shopping destinations Like Via Condotti and Via Borgognona are also within strolling distance. Nearby options for drinking and dining abound – this is Rome, after all.

Six Senses Rome’s beauty begins on the outside, with a rich history dating back centuries. Built in the 18th century by architect Tomaso De Marchis, Palazzo Salviati Cesi Mellini was constructed on the original site of Cardinal Giovanni Michiel’s palace. Over the centuries it served as a place of residence for many religious figures and is now a UNESCO-listed site.

Behind the gorgeous Baroque facade, you’ll find a grand total of just 95 rooms and suites: an intimate size that makes the property feel like an oasis within the city. Legendary designer Patricia Urquiola is to thank for the gorgeous interiors, which seamlessly fuse contemporary luxury with the building’s storied past. While each of the accommodations is distinct from the next, they all share a calm, timeless aesthetic defined by soft neutral colour schemes, clean lines and attractively simple adornments. Many of the accommodations feature high ceilings, and the hotel’s poshest options feature outdoor terraces alongside sublime views.

There are two options for drinking and dining at the hotel, with endless more to be found outside its doors. BIVIUM Restaurant-Café-Bar aims to check all the boxes with its all-day dining, buzzy vibe and contemporary, plant-based Italian fare. When the weather’s lovely, head upstairs to NOTOS Rooftop for a superb cocktail in a secret garden-esque environment.

Drinks aren’t all there is to enjoy on the pretty rooftop: you can also venture there for a memorable yoga session at sunrise. Your health and wellness journey can continue later on with meditation and aerial yoga sessions, followed by some much-needed pampering in the beautiful spa, where you’ll also find Roman Baths, saunas, a nail bar and a Biohacking Room – among many other delights.
