"One hundred years ago, a tobacco warehouse stood on the shores of the Bosphorus Strait in Istanbul’s Beşiktaş region. That warehouse is now home to Shangri-La Bosphorus, one of the city’s finest hotels."
The Shangri-La’s guestrooms are some of the largest in Istanbul and come in a dizzying array of options, with choices ranging from the entry-level Deluxe Rooms to the positively palatial Shangri-La Suite. All share an air of timeless luxury, a sort of ethereal quality that’s owed largely to the ultra-light (mostly monochromatic) colour scheme. Pale curtains and lampshades match the creamy walls, and the perfect amount of colour is added by pastel carpets and dark wood furnishings. The hotel’s signature restaurant Shang Palace serves authentic Cantonese cuisine in an attractive and ambient dining room – be sure to go at least once for lunch or dinner. The hotel’s other restaurant, IST TOO, offers a magnificent array of international delicacies both indoors and out. Dine in the stylish dining room or out on the terrace – the only trouble here is deciding what to order on a menu that has everything from sushi to pasta to traditional Turkish fare. You’ll have two spots to choose from for a post-prandial drink: the first is the delightful Lobby Lounge, which is designed to resemble a particularly elegant tearoom and has a fairy-tale-esque feel about it. Le Bar is a darker, more contemporary option that’s both sophisticated and artsy – and a great spot for tapas.
The East-meets-West appeal that characterises the hotel continues on in the indulgent spa, where you’ll find invigorating hammams alongside a comprehensive treatment menu. There’s also two indoor pools, one of which is large enough to swim laps in (the other is for children) as well as a reasonably well-equipped gymnasium that ensures guests can keep active during their stays.
