Schloss Elmau Luxury Spa, Retreat and Cultural Hideaway
About the hotel
"A hidden gem in the awe-inspiring Bavarian Alps, Schloss Elmau boasts Michelin-starred dining, six spas and myriad opportunities for adventure both on the property and in the mountains beyond."
Luxury living is easy here, and elegant accommodations are upscale in a refreshingly laid back way. There’s no hint of pretence in the guestrooms which are bright, inviting and homey all at once. High ceilings and enormous windows (some of which open up to private terraces) flood the spaces with natural light and make the interiors feel even larger. Warm wood couples with a palette of white, sand and blood orange, punctuated here and there by dashes of whimsy (we love the elephant-pattern headboards). Accommodations at Schloss Elmau are divided into two different configurations. Warm wood couples with a palette of white, sand and blood orange, punctuated here and there by dashes of whimsy (we love the elephant-pattern headboards). Accommodations at Schloss Elmau are divided into two different configurations. The Retreat is a spa-focused option that boasts luxurious suites on a sunny hilltop location, while The Hideaway offers a larger selection of rooms and suites close to ample entertainment options.
Schloss Elmau’s Luce d’Oro is a must-visit; this two Michelin-starred restaurant is simply not to be missed. Within, the atmosphere is modern yet cosy, with an easy-going ambience that belies the exquisite nature of its cuisine. Innovative and exciting, the restaurant blends European dishes with Asian tradition to create a Japanese-French fusion that is utterly unforgettable. Luce d’Oro is certainly a tough act to follow, but the hotel’s other eateries are absolutely worth visiting. At Summit, the flavours of Italy are broadened to encompass the culinary allure of the Mediterranean at large, and dishes are just as lovely to look at as they are to eat. The mountain restaurant Elmauer Alm is perched at an altitude of over 1200 metres and features breathtaking panoramic views to go with its hearty Alpine cuisine. Tucked within The Hideaway is Kaminstube which features fondues of both Chinese and Swiss origin, while the nearby Al Camino lounge hosts jazz pianists and intellectual discussions to go with its marvellous drinks.
Wellness is a way of life at Schloss Elmau, and its health-focused offerings are utterly sublime. Seven pools offer plenty of backdrops for swimming laps, while a gorgeous yoga pavilion hosts daily classes led by skilled teachers. Opportunities to explore the magnificence of the Alps abound and six spas will rejuvenate you after excursions. The amenities don’t stop there, thanks to the presence of a concert hall, bookstores and endless possibilities for adventures in and around the hotel.
