Royal Champagne’s 47 rooms and suites are spread between a 19th-century Post House and an additional modernist wing. The regional influence is apparent from the moment you set foot inside, from the rooms’ nature-inspired wallpaper and use of organic materials to the tasteful champagne-coloured accents. Interiors feature natural oak floors, sumptuous beds and artistic contemporary touches by way of elegant lighting fixtures and eye-catching wall art. Bathrooms are equally indulgent, and all of the accommodations have private outdoor terraces from which to enjoy the magnificent views. Thoughtful extras can be found everywhere, from the professional tea and coffee accoutrements to the complimentary mini bar which can be custom stocked to your liking.
Being that this is wine country, we had high expectations of Royal Champagne’s dining scene, and the hotel delivered. Le Bellevue Restaurant & Terrace is as visually striking as it is delicious. Hundreds upon hundreds of crystal pendants are suspended overhead in the beautiful interior dining room, which features full-wall windows that gaze out at the terrace and the views beyond. The restaurant at large is inspired by the terroir of Champagne, and the menu is an authentic reflection of the region. Locally sourced meats and produce fill the sublime menu, which at any given time may include delicacies such as caramelised octopus or black truffle risotto. Abysse Bar is an elegant affair which is equally as good for lunch as it is for a late night cocktail. This venue does classic cocktails quite well, although their signature cocktails are also superb. The undisputed highlight of the culinary scene is Le Royal Étape Gastronomique, which is helmed by chef Jean-Denis Rieubland and boasts a Michelin star. There, guests can enjoy elevated and meticulously crafted contemporary cuisine in a beautiful dining room that’s dedicated to both Champagne and the women who played a role in the life and times of Napoleon Bonaparte (who once paid a visit to the property in its days as a Post House).
After a day spent exploring the vineyards, pay a visit to the hotel’s spa, which feels like a well-kept secret with its two swimming pools, nine treatment cabins, beauty bar and more.
