Set opposite the Augustiner Brewery about a mile outside of the city centre is Roomers Munich, one of the Roomers brand’s trifecta of German hotels. Fashion-forward and stylish as can be, this design and lifestyle hotel is a stand out amongst its peers; stunning guestrooms, top-notch amenities and a phenomenal restaurant place this 280-room establishment firmly in a league of its own.

The hotel’s glamorous aesthetic is hard to pin down. Minimalism and maximalism both have their say in the interior design, while low lighting and dark hues create a sultry overall atmosphere. Evocative though the guestrooms are, they manage to be calm and fabulously well-lit in the daytime – you’ll have floor-to-ceiling windows to thank for that – and the hedonistic undertones never come at the expense of sophistication. Large stretches of ivory walls are attractively interrupted by panels of the darkest wood, and tufted grey furnishings tie together the monochromatic sensibilities. Bronze-coloured rugs, metallic accents and lots of mirrors give the spaces an almost futuristic feel, and in some accommodations accents like enormous canary yellow giraffe statues add an unexpected (but appreciated) dash of whimsy. Meanwhile, bathrooms feel cool as can be with their black marble walls and unusually shaped stand-alone tubs.

IZAKAYA Asian Kitchen & Bar is undoubtedly the culinary highlight of the hotel. Within it, the concept of a small traditional Japanese restaurant is reimagined with modernity in mind. The tantalizing cuisine is Japanese-focused with an enticing South American flair, and a varied menu features everything from sushi and sashimi to Osume and Sakana. Though IZAKAYA is the dining showstopper, guests will have a handful of other options for food and drink at the hotel. Roomers Bar – which was inspired by the lauded Frankfurt establishment that shares its name – is an excellent spot for a cocktail, as is the Lobby Lounge and Bar. The Wet Bar deli is a casual spot for both snacks and drinks and is conveniently located by the spa.

Speaking of, Roomers Spa by Shan Rahimkan is a must-visit, whether for a restorative treatment or a dip in the infinity pool, which – by the way – has a cinema screen. Exercise and be entertained simultaneously in the pool, or go for a workout in the hotel’s gym which has a dark evocative ambience with its all-black walls and club-like lighting.
