Not many hotels can claim the distinction of being virtually unmissable, but Raffles Doha is one of the rare few that can. Visually speaking, there’s simply nothing else like it: Katara Towers – which houses the hotel – is nothing short of an architectural wonder, with its dramatic crescent shape and skyward-sweeping arms. The building’s jaw-dropping exterior is a fitting introduction to a stay at Raffles, which is a true testament to both the luxury and hospitality of the region.

Raffles Doha bills itself as an ultra-luxury stay, and from the moment one steps foot in the lobby, it delivers on that promise. ‘Opulent’ would be an understatement: the lobby is positively resplendent with its dazzling chandeliers and ethereal, optical-illusion ceiling.

The magic continues in the hotel’s 132 accommodations, all of which are suites. The smallest of the lot clocks in at an impressive 78 square metres, and the offerings only get more sumptuous from there. Designed by Marcel Wanders, all are lavishly appointed, and feel extravagant with just a dash of something whimsical. Guests can (and should) expect the works: bespoke designer furnishings, generous living spaces and spa-like bathrooms with experience showers are just the beginning. Exquisite Qatari and Arabic design elements adorn the walls and ceilings, the most eye-catching of which are vaulted. Views, naturally, are sublime, and full-wall windows allow those vistas to be suitably enjoyed at all times. Snappy butler service is the icing on top of the already mouthwatering cake.

The gastronomy scene at Raffles echoes the splendour of the hotel at large, with an impressive assortment of elevated venues to choose from. The flavours of Northern Italy are brought to Qatar at Alba, which centres much of its cuisine around the rare Piedmont Alba White Truffles for which it’s named. While Alba is the gem in the hotel’s collection, the other eateries are certainly nothing to sneeze at. L’Artisan is an indulgent brunch spot with theatrical show cooking; if you’ve ever wanted to try a Wild Mushroom Cappuccino or an Omani Lobster Bao Bun, you’ll be able to do that here. Malaki Raffles Lounge is a glamorous spot for afternoon tea, while both Aqua Urban Deck and Raffles Pool serve refreshments poolside. As far as drinks go, it’s difficult to choose a favourite spot: will it be the library-themed Blue Cigar Writer’s Lounge with its exquisite cocktails and thousands of rare books, or the 36th-floor Acoustic Music Penthouse, which boasts live music to go with its awe-inspiring panoramic views? The choice is yours.
