The columned entryway still bears the original “Plaza-Hotel” inscription over the doorway, and yet today it is very much a Park Hyatt with all the amenities and service standards you would expect. Located in the centre of town, opposite the Plaza Independencia, it’s a short ride to the airport and about half an hour away from many of the wineries you are no doubt here to explore.

The very grand lobby with its two-story ceiling, gleaming tile floors and massive white columns has comfy seating areas where guests can enjoy the ambience of this beautiful hotel. Artwork by local artists hangs on the walls, worth perusing before settling on a barstool at the elegant Uvas Lounge and Bar. You’ll be able to explore wines from local boutique wineries as well as the biggest and best of the region – all with the help of the excellent team working the bar. Dinner (as well as lunch) is served at the Grill Q for classic Argentinian dishes like empanadas and steak, or try Bistro M that’s open for all meals of the day. There’s also the terraces outdoors overlooking the plaza where you’ll no doubt spend a lot of time – drinking tea, coffee or something stronger – while you’re here.
The hotel boasts a spa, an outdoor pool that’s big enough for laps and a gym if you wish to keep fit in a traditional way, although we suggest brisk walks around the vineyards, followed by a tasting or two, is as good a workout as any while here in Mendoza.
