Within the hotel are seventy accommodations, nine of which are suites. This intimate size creates an exclusive feel while also affording guests plenty of welcome privacy. Inside, the accommodations – designed to evoke the feeling of staying in a luxury guesthouse – are magnificently and meticulously designed with attractive minimalism and a wonderful feeling of zen. Nature – and the pursuit of harmony with it – are the driving factors behind the rooms’ aesthetic; expect plenty of natural materials (many of which – such as the fragrant Tamo wood found throughout – are locally sourced) alongside the handiwork of regional craftsmen and original artwork as well. Enormous full-wall windows flood the calm spaces with natural light, and many of the suites feature spellbinding views – book Ninenzaka House to secure the most dramatic sunset vistas alongside views of Yasaka Pagoda.
If your guest room doesn't gaze out at the aforementioned Pagoda, fear not, you can enjoy views of it day and night from Yasaka, the hotel's signature restaurant. There, spirited cuisine blends Teppanyaki tradition with French-inspired cooking techniques for an innovative dining experience. The restaurant Kyotamato is a traditional ryotei that serves seasonally-inspired kaiseki cuisine in a gorgeous setting composed of several historic buildings: a fact attributed to it being a family-run business that dates back an impressive six generations. Kyoto Bistro is a casual street-side café with a dynamic atmosphere and comfort food, both regional and international, while the bar Kohaku is an intimate and ambient spot to end the day with a craft cocktail and dramatic views as seen through enormous floor-to-ceiling windows.
There is a good assortment of amenities to be found within the hotel including a spa, fitness centre, bathhouse and private library of fine books, but the real attractions are the ones that you'll find just outside of Park Hyatt’s walls. The famous Kodai-ji Temple is quite literally right next door, while a number of other must-see sites, museums and cultural attractions are virtually just steps away.
