In addition to being one of Qatar’s most exciting up-and-coming attractions, Msheireb Downtown Doha has the distinction of being the world‘s very first sustainable downtown regeneration project. This ambitious undertaking has set out to breathe new life into the old commercial district, transforming it into a gorgeous, contemporary city centre inspired by traditional Qatari design. Within it is the marvellous Park Hyatt Doha: an elegant hideaway that’s as sophisticated and enticing as the area that envelops it.

Exquisitely curated from top to bottom, the Park Hyatt oozes attractive, artsy minimalism. Artwork abounds throughout, lending a gallery-esque feel to every space. The guestrooms – of which there are 187, alongside 33 suites – are no exception. All are impeccably designed: sleek and simple without being boring in the slightest. Artsy striped carpeting rests beneath slick contemporary furniture, and high-ceilinged walls are intermittently panelled by gorgeous natural wood. Understated artwork and intriguing light fixtures add a subtle dash of personality, and some lucky suites have terraces. All rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows (hello, views) and marble bathrooms kitted out with rain showers and deep soaking tubs.

The hotel’s aesthetic is unfailingly stylish and its eateries are equally so. Three restaurants offer a range of both cuisines and backdrops to suit any occasion. For the health-conscious, Anis offers nutritious meals alongside an enticing array of rejuvenating juices and smoothies. Opus is the brainchild of lauded chef Jean-Francois Roquette and is a magnificent celebration of both French and Qatari cuisines. There, delightful dishes are prepared in an open kitchen and served to share, creating a memorable meal in an equally memorable atmosphere – whether you choose to dine on the gorgeous outdoor terrace or in the exquisite, subtly Arabesque interior. The rooftop Japanese restaurant Sora might just be the most magical of all. A stellar menu boasts everything from sushi and sashimi to Robata-style meats, and – thanks to its 21st-story setting – the panoramic views of the skyline are arguably some of the city’s best.

Not to be undone by the splendour of the guestrooms and the restaurant is the spa – a two-story temple to wellness which is a destination all its own. Visually stunning and utterly luxurious, the spa offers everything from marble pools and ice rooms end-of-treatment virtual reality headset experiences for cutting-edge pampering. The semi-covered pool on the sixth floor boasts the gorgeous views that seem to be everywhere in the Park Hyatt; panoramic vistas can even be enjoyed from the hotel’s two fitness centres.
