An ultramodern island getaway set on Mauritius’ northern edge, LUX* Grand Baie is a boutique-style resort that melds the best of the contemporary world with blissful island living. The result of a collaboration between Mauritian architect Jean-François Adam and iconic British interior designer Kelly Hoppen CBE, this unique getaway is the first of its kind and is the flagship property of the LUX* Collective.

There are no basic rooms to be found at LUX*: all of the property’s accommodations come in the form of either suites, villas, residences or penthouses. Wherever you choose to stay, expect dreamy, impeccably designed spaces that are effortlessly chic and impressively high-tech. Contemporary interiors are set in a calm and cool colour palette of organic neutrals: shades of beige, taupe, ivory and charcoal predominate, with wood and stone details adding some welcome texture and depth. Eye-catching bathrooms feel almost gallery-esque with their elongated mirrors, framed photography and artsy geometric sinks (we particularly like the oversized standalone bathtubs), and that curated vibe extends to the rest of the spaces as well. All accommodations feature private outdoor areas (furnished, of course) from which to take in the fresh air and the views. For an even more elevated stay, upgrade to a residence, villa or penthouse to enjoy perks like private pools, butler service and BBQs out on the terraces.

While the resort at large happily welcomes families, a few areas are off-limits to kids. One of those places is Bisou, a cosmopolitan bar and restaurant hotspot that might just be one of the coolest rooftops on the island. Visit Bisou day or night to enjoy music provided by live DJs, a 30-plus metre-long swimming pool and a variety of vibrant cocktails and tapas. For something entirely different, head inside to the evocative Ai KISU, which boasts contemporary Japanese fare, an open kitchen, an impressive Warayaki straw fire and – delightfully – a soya sauce sommelier. You’ll also want to pay a visit to Walima for some superb Lebanese and Moroccan fare, as well as Beach Rouge, which is a day-to-night affair that is equal parts beachfront restaurant and buzzy nightclub.

The resort’s health and wellness are every bit as aesthetically pleasing as the rest of the property, from the cutting-edge LUX* Me Spa to the do-it-yourself hydrothermal bath journey which encompasses everything from a multi-sensory water path to a kneipp walk and a laconium. You’ll also find a gym, a cycle studio and a ‘mind & body studio’, in addition to all the beauty salon offerings one could want.
