London's original Marriott hotel began its life as a stately townhouse set in the ever-stylish Mayfair neighbourhood. The years have transformed that enviably located townhouse into the London Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square: a grand establishment with a timeless atmosphere, superb foodie scene and prime location that places it within easy walking distance of some of London's finest shopping and dining.

A grand and gleaming lobby awaits after you cross the threshold; the space is resplendent with marble staircases and leather seating, all cloaked in an Old World ambience. Beyond, the contemporary guest rooms stand in stark contrast to the grandiose lobby in a refreshingly welcome way. Crisp, bright and airy, these spaces are visions of tranquillity with their high ceilings, tall windows and colour palettes set in pure white, deep navy and gentle greys. Decor is kept to an extremely tasteful minimum, with potted orchids, pretty lighting fixtures and a few carefully selected framed prints on the walls. Enormous tufted headboards add a hint of regal flair and some of the nicer accommodations feature perks like private balconies and Nespresso machines – other guests will have to make do with normal tea-and-coffee-making accoutrements.

Three venues for food and drink offer guests a wonderful introduction to London's vibrant foodie scene. Lucky Cat by Gordon Ramsay brings contemporary Asian flavours to Mayfair with fabulously invented cuisine served in a gorgeous, industrial-chic setting. Come for dinner or drinks (preferably both), and be sure to make a reservation in advance. That iconic chef also lends his name and expertise to the hotel’s Gordon Ramsay Bar & Grill, a steakhouse where you'll find Manhattan-style dishes in a swanky environment inspired by American grills. For a pre or post-prandial cocktail, visit The Luggage Room Bar: an eclectic, award-winning 1920's style speakeasy that is beloved by both guests and locals alike.

The Grosvenor Square Marriott Leisure Club is open 24 hours a day and features a comprehensive assortment of equipment in a blue-lit, almost club-like setting. There is, unfortunately, no spa within the hotel itself, but you'll find a handful of high-end options for treatments in the neighbourhood. Speaking of, there's no shortage of things to do in the immediate area: Hyde Park is a 10-minute walk away, and must-visit destinations like Bond Street are even closer.
