Ladera Resort
About the hotel
"Deliciously private and oh-so-romantic, the adults-only Ladera Resort boasts thirty-seven beautiful suites with private pools and sweeping views alongside contemporary Creole cuisine and a voluptuary spa."
In beautiful wooden suites, four-poster beds are draped with fine netting. And a good thing they are, as the rooms lack a fourth wall and are entirely open to the unforgettable view (and the unforgettable view’s accompanying geckos and hummingbirds). Each piece of exquisitely carved furniture is handmade on-site by St. Lucian artisans from a variety of tropical hardwoods.

All of the thirty-seven suites have their own private pool (some with wooden swings and waterfalls), and in certain rooms colourful mosaic showers are open-air as well. Rooms have Nespresso machines, Molton Brown toiletries and the resort’s “Necessaire Kit” with perks like binoculars and star maps for late-night stargazing. You’ll also find a water pistol – you’ll need it to (gently) fend off birds who would like to dip into your snacks.
At Dasheene – Ladera’s restaurant – contemporary Creole dishes are made with ingredients grown in the resort’s garden. Meats and shrimp are the only imported fare – everything else is native to the area and spectacularly fresh. If you aren’t too culinarily adventurous, worry not, familiar options like a cream cheese bagel with lox can be found here as well.
Three shuttles a day take guests down to the beach, and the nearby coastal town Soufrière is a five-minute drive away. Also close is the La Soufrière drive-in volcano. It claims to be the world’s only such place, and yes, you can literally drive up to the edge of the springs. Through the resort you can partake in a number of on-site activities or excursions, like bartending classes, whale watching, or guided rainforest walks. If urban exploration is more your style, take a shopping trip to Castries, St. Lucia’s capital city.
Of course, no one will blame you for simply staying put, indulging in sunrise meditation or a visit to the spa. There, treatments like volcanic renewal facials are inspired by the surrounding land. Or opt for a couples massage and a lesson in learning how to massage your partner – Ladera is for lovers, after all.
