Those familiar with Phillipe Starck’s flair will recognise his whimsical magic in the public spaces and rooms, put to good use to create a nautically inspired yacht club feel throughout the hotel. Rooms are made to look like mariners’ cabins on dry land, and decorative pieces include ropes, anchors, woodwork resembling ship hulls, paintings of sailboats and photos and portraits of captains, bronze rowlocks and oars.
Choosing a room can be tricky, as there are eight different room categories to choose from, starting at the top with the Eden Suites (there are two). Each one has four balconies, and they’re located on the third floor facing the lake. Of course, the lake road can be a little noisy, so if you’re a light sleeper, you may want to choose a room on the top floor, the fifth, that faces the courtyard instead. These rooms have mansard roofs, a nice feature, as well as Nespresso machines, fine bedding and linens and sleek wooden furnishings. Bathrooms are separated from the rooms by a sliding glass door (shrinking violets may have some issues here). Note that rooms are not large, so take that into consideration if you’re the sort who travels on the heavy side.
When it comes to dining, the Eden Kitchen & Bar occupies most of the first floor. The open kitchen atmosphere is inviting and fun, as is the food (even if your burger will be the priciest you’ve ever consumed). Sunday brunch here is pretty special; go for the blinis with smoked salmon. Upstairs on the rooftop is La Muña. Open all day for sharing plates, lite bites and some creative cocktails, it’s pretty popular with the in-crowd in town.
There’s no gym (or spa) here, but with the lakeside quay outside your door, you probably won’t miss it. Go for a jog and watch the pristine white swans the sailboats glide by on the lake’s waters with the mountains, and alps on a clear day, as a backdrop.
