If you’re looking for a room with a view in Panama City, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better hotel than the JW Marriott Panama. Set smack on the shores of Punta Pacifica in an eye-catching high-rise, this luxurious getaway boasts striking views of both the water and the city skyline. Add to that its convenient location and top-notch facilities, and you have everything you need for a blissful stay in the capital city.

Within the polished tower are 369 accommodations, which come in nearly a dozen different varieties of rooms and suites. All are thoughtful representations of quiet luxury and are reasonably well-sized, even at entry level. Interiors are set in pale neutral shades of cream, ivory and beige, while bright accent pillows and attractive abstract art mounted above the beds add a bit of life to the otherwise monochromatic spaces. The hotel boasts swimming pools both indoors and out: the outdoor infinity pool set on the 13th floor terrace would have to be our favourite with its cobalt blue loungers, swaying palm trees and mesmerising views of the sea. If you prefer a more conventional workout over laps, you’ll find a full-size gym that is well equipped with all the necessary cardio and resistance gear.

The Latin American restaurant, MASI, is a must visit, at least once. Colourful and lively, this is a fun spot for lunch or dinner, and the live ceviche bar is quite a treat. Azul Restaurant is set poolside and is a lovely place to start your day with breakfast or to enjoy a tropical cocktail a little later in the day. More cocktails – alongside superb appetisers and dinner – can be found at Cava 15, which is ambient and alluring with its leather armchairs and gilded accents. In the Executive Lounge, you’ll be able to find light bites and your daily caffeine fix alongside appetisers, which are served each evening from 5:30 until eight.
