The Frankfurt skyline is a striking one, with glittering towers soaring above the river Main. One such building is an all-glass, 25-story skyscraper that houses the luxurious JW Marriott Hotel Frankfurt. The hotel’s ritzy address in the heart of the city makes it popular with the well-heeled corporate crowd, yet it manages to cover the best of both worlds – cultural must-sees like the Goethe House and the New Old Town are an easy walk away, and the Hauptwache train station is within shouting distance. Fashionistas, in particular, would be hard-pressed to find a better location – the stylish MyZeil shopping centre is quite literally right next door.

The hotel endeavours to be as cutting-edge as possible, and it delivers. Touch screen lifts are just the beginning of the hotel’s ultra-modern design, and rooms are another story altogether. Even conventional air conditioning is eschewed; in its place, rooms are tempered by motion sensors and body heat detectors (an environmentally conscious measure, in addition to being a posh touch). The gadgetry is palliated by rooms set in shades of sand, ivory and mocha, with pretty wooden furnishings and floors. Natural light streams through floor-to-ceiling windows, and decor is kept to a soothing minimum with paintings by Hartwig Ebersbach brightening up the large, airy spaces.

There is no pool or gym onsite, but fitness buffs needn’t worry – Fitness Club Frankfurt is right next door, and guests of the hotel have complimentary access. You won’t have to leave the property at all to visit Talise Spa which has all the expected massages and facials in addition to a beauty menu featuring mani-pedis and “Cocktail Makeup” to get you prepped for a night on the town.

Also onsite are a handful of stellar dining options. On the first floor, you’ll find the sleek, glass-heavy dining room of Max on One Grillroom which serves an excellent assortment of meats and seafood – grilled, of course. Watch your dinner being prepared in the restaurant’s open-show kitchen, or try the nearby El Rayyan instead for mezze and authentic Lebanese cuisine. Ember Bar and Lounge feels more intimate and has a finely curated champagne list. As it should – the lounge was created in partnership with Veuve Clicquot, and the leather chairs are precisely the same hue as the champagne brand’s label. Be sure to visit the terrace on the 28th floor – the hotel produces its own honey from beehives on the rooftop.
