The JW Marriott Cannes might just be one of the best-located hotels on the French Riviera. Its oceanfront address is undeniably glamorous thanks to both the picture-perfect beach in front of it and the history of the land itself. The property sits atop the place where the very first of the legendary Cannes Film Festivals was held, but while its history inspires nostalgia, this hotel is anything but old-fashioned. In fact, it’s quite the opposite: distinctly contemporary with an artsy sense of personality that we can’t help but love.

Within, rooms feel enchantingly designer and have a striking gallery-esque atmosphere that feels very bespoke. Sleek furniture and enormous black-and-white prints depicting silver screen legends of old pay homage to the film-centric Cannes, while cosy lighting and a rich colour palette entices guests to curl up and stay awhile. Suites up the ante significantly in both size and design and the Presidential Suite is our favourite of all. There, striking geometric patterns, artsy orange furniture, an enormous spa-like bathroom and dazzling views of the water make for a particularly memorable stay.

Though there are a myriad of options for food and drink in the surrounding neighbourhood, you’ll find just one full restaurant at the hotel. Called the JW Grill, this snazzy beachfront spot serves Mediterranean food with a kick of Asian flair – dine outside with your toes in the sand to enjoy the fresh air with a front-row seat for some particularly good people watching. All meals of the day are served at JW Grill (which is particularly lovely at sunset), while small dishes and cocktails can be had at Le Panorama Rooftop Snack & Bar, which (as its name suggests) has the most wonderful panoramic views of Cannes.

There’s no spa on-site (though the surrounding area boasts plenty, thanks to an abundance of Hollywood royalty passing through on a yearly basis), but there is a pretty outdoor pool on the rooftop, a fitness centre that’s open 24 hours and – of course – the beach. Given that it’s the largest private beach in Cannes, this is a heavenly and quintessentially nautical spot to hang out, whether to sunbathe, mingle or enjoy the live DJ (or all of the above). Guests are spoilt for choice as far as local attractions are concerned; whether you seek a romantic stroll through a pretty park, an idyllic seaside excursion or even just a few rounds of (exceptionally picturesque) golf, you’re sure to find it (and so much more) here.
