Jackalope Hotel
About the hotel
"An edgy and artistic getaway set in the lush countryside, the design-forward Jackalope Hotel boasts bold guestrooms, daring dining and an unforgettable art scene."
Set some seventy kilometres outside of Melbourne, Jackalope’s surroundings are picture-perfect countryside landscapes – which makes the hotel itself stand out all the more. Dark charcoal exteriors and bold blocky architecture contrast sharply against the lush green landscape, and the buildings represent a fanciful, modernist take on traditional agricultural structures. Guestrooms – which the hotel lovingly refers to as ‘Lairs’ – are even more intriguing. Moody interiors are set in contrasting shades of charcoal and white, with very little deviation from the monochrome palette save for the verdant views as seen through enormous windows. Sharp lines and restrained decor make the spaces feel like something straight out of a minimalist gallery, a feeling that is heightened by bold furnishings and daring touches throughout. Eye-catching bathrooms feature deep soaking Japanese tubs and have a spa-like ambience, while private terraces enjoy the most magnificent vineyard views.
‘Experimental’ is a word that comes to mind during a stay at the hotel, and the property's gastronomy scene is certainly no exception. The cheekily named Doot Doot Doot (which is helmed by Chef Simon Tarlington) is an intoxicating exploration of playful dishes that fuse traditional techniques with bold innovation. The farm-to-table style found at this eatery is self-proclaimed as ‘produce worshipping’ and is a must-visit at least once for any guest during their stay. Rare Hare is another option for lunch or dinner; dine indoors or out at this concept restaurant, which features daring cuisine and fantastic wine. Guests can also opt to dine whenever the inclination strikes in the comfort of their room or out on the sunny terrace. Flaggerdoot (it quickly becomes apparent that strange names are another theme at Jackalope) is the hotel’s iconic cocktail lounge, which is characterised by edgy art installations, an unforgettable ambience and mouth-watering alchemic creations.
The property’s art collection is an integral part of Jackalope Hotel that utilises rebellious and conceptual pieces as a means of storytelling. Immersive and exciting, these ever-evolving installations are a critical part of the guest experience and feature boundary-pushing works by renowned artists from around the world.
