"Yet another fly-and-flop resort on the island, the hotel’s Regency Club rooms are superb, as are the pool and beach, although the dining scene isn’t the best we’ve seen."

Located on Aruba’s Palm Beach, the Hyatt Regency Resort Spa and Casino is yet another fly-and-flop destination in Aruba, one that has all the trimmings and trappings to make for a salubrious beach holiday in a safe and welcoming environment. One of the hotel’s main attractions is the vast, adults-only pool and the casino, but children are well catered to as well with Camp Hyatt on call to entertain them during the day.

When it comes to choosing a room of the 359 (sixteen are suites) in this nine-storey hotel, obviously the physically higher the better. And a water view is almost essential, even if you plan to spend as little time in your digs as possible. Some have balconies (perfect for drying your swimsuit, if nothing else) and all are sleekly furnished with simple, clean and neutral pieces. Pops of turquoise blue in the curtains and upholstery contrast nicely, and bleached seashells are used as accessories on the walls. All rooms have Starbucks coffee machines, free Wi-Fi and nice bath amenities, but if you upgrade to a Regency Club Lounge room or suite, breakfast, snacks and wine and beer will be included in your rate, as well as access to the handsome lounge.

If you eschew that option and its offerings, however, start your day at the Shoco Market Café. Formal breakfast can be found at one or two places, and there’s also a beachside juice bar, a healthy treat. Otherwise, there’s always a few spots open to grab a bite should you be a late riser. With the weather in Aruba being what it is (always nice), lunch is generally served outdoors – by the pool or on the beach. Dinner options are limited, so you may want to venture out after a night or two. Here at teh hotel, there’s only one restaurant that’s open for a formal dinner, the Ruinas del Mar, which serves everything from burgers to Chilean Sea Bass, with sides like truffle fries and sweet potato gratin to liven things up.

After a day in the sun, a visit to the spa would be a good idea. Otherwise, there’s a 24-hour gym, or you could take a ride down the huge slide in the pool. Snorkelling and deep-sea fishing trips, as well as the chance to rent almost every kind of watersports equipment you can imagine, is possible. Of note, the hotel has a jewellery shop that sells beautiful trinkets and the world’s most fabulous watches that will put your willpower to the test each and every time you walk by.
