Hotel Traube Tonbach
About the hotel
"This picture-perfect location in the Black Forest boasts a historic building, some of the finest German cuisine in the country, a spa, three swimming pools and a variety of amenities."
Rooms are well-appointed, if not lavish, and all come with balconies and breakfast. Furniture, made of wood, is attractive and reflects the local style. Rooms are well-appointed, if not lavish, and all come with balconies and breakfast. Furniture, made of wood, is attractive and reflects the local style. Wall-to-wall carpeting and pops of colour on the beds and chairs – pink or blue – is a little staid, as are the headboards and bedside tables that are attached to the wall. Upgrade, and you’ll get a sofa and chairs, but the design style is the same. The hotel has some single rooms, a nice option if you’re here alone or with an elder child.
Kudos are in order for the culinary team here who have brought home award after award over the years. Anyone – well, anyone who likes fine food – who has been to this region of Germany will have heard of Schwarzwaldstube (Black Forest Parlour) and its reputation as one of Germany’s finest restaurants. A big lure for this lovely property, it was a devastating blow when, in 2020, the restaurant burned down along with the hotel’s one Michelin-starred restaurant, Köhlerstube. The rest of the property was undamaged, and the two restaurants are now housed in temporary venues until the rebuild is complete – something to look forward to in the years ahead.
In addition to the above-mentioned restaurants, there are several other fine places to dine, including a Swiss-style fondue restaurant, many outdoor choices and a bar with a wooden, beautifully hand-carved interior. The hotel has a spa, a gym and three swimming pools, two of Olympic length. One is indoors, one (heated) outdoors and another is for children. Other activities like bike riding, cooking classes, yoga instruction and guided walks are offered.
