Hôtel Reisen takes its name from a Dutchman named Fredrik Reiss, who in the 1750s ran a semi-legal coffeehouse. Over the years, that coffeehouse evolved, consistently serving as a gathering point for some of Europe’s most noted writers and poets. The hotel, along with its culinary scene, pays homage to this rich history, beginning with Restaurant Reiss, which has over the years hosted many of Sweden’s most celebrated chefs. A waterfront restaurant with charming historic interiors, this eclectic spot features contemporary takes on classic Swedish fare: a delightful menu includes dishes such as Swedish meatballs with lingonberries, toast with chanterelles and Arctic char with baked leek and roasted hazelnut. Before or after a meal, stop by Bar Reiss for a cocktail or a cup of coffee. For a change of atmosphere, Bar Brahe is a spirited bar inspired by the docks outside Gamla Stan. There, spice-heavy cocktails, a vibrant crowd and live jazz await.
