The Hotel Metropole is a bright star in the Monte Carlo hotel scene. It’s a luxury, Belle Epoque property that boasts beauty across the board everywhere the eye can see. How could it not? Top talent was brought in to bring fantasy to reality: designers Jaques Garcia and Didier Gomez are responsible for various rooms and spaces, and Karl Lagerfeld designed the garden, pool deck and poolside restaurant, Odyssey. You can also dine on Michelin-starred Japanese dishes in a chic dining room surrounded by tranquil gardens at Yoshi, which is open for lunch and dinner.

Step out of reality the moment you reach the environs, and head down the hotel’s brick driveway shaded by jasmine and orchid trees situated just off the Place de Casino. Because the property is set back off the water’s edge, however, you won’t get sweeping views of land or sea from the rooms. Even the top category suite on the highest floor, the 150 sq m (1,615 sq ft) Suite Carré d'Or, has sea views that are partially obscured by the glorious Casino de Monte-Carlo. But with the suite’s superb and private 110 sq m (1,184 sq ft) rooftop terrace, who could complain? In fact, the lack of views from any of the rooms is hardly a deal-breaker.

The charming service members and staff are part of the reason joy reigns supreme within. They never seem to miss a beat, even when you, yourself, do so. Turn up to the restaurant without a booking, and they will inevitably find you somewhere salubrious to eat, whether here or elsewhere.

The same, however, won’t be possible if you show up at the Givenchy spa excepting to waltz in for a signature ‘Heat Experience’ program which includes the use of the sauna, hammam, caldarium, ice fountain and sensory showers. Rather, make a booking in advance through the concierge, and ladies should make another for the Givenchy makeup experience to emerge glowing both inside and out. It’ll be about time to head to the lobby bar, a heavenly venue created by Jaques Garcia, unquestionably one of the nicest watering holes in town.

Although this is a grown-up venue, children are welcomed, and interconnecting rooms are available. In the summer, there’s a kids’ club that welcomes 4 to 12-year-olds.
