Hotel Il Pellicano
About the hotel
"With a stunning countryside backdrop and beautiful sea views, Hotel Il Pellicano offers the best of both worlds for an exclusive and deeply romantic escape. There’s history here by the droves."
You’ll soon see that this destination boasts something unique. Hotel Il Pellicano is almost hidden away within a quintessentially Tuscan landscape of cypress trees, olive groves and rosemary bushes. And the history is quite endearing: in the 1960s, an American socialite and a British aviator created a romantic hideaway here. They were soon followed by their glamorous friends who came to enjoy this stunning part of Italy. Fast forward to 1979, and hotelier Roberto Scio loved it so much that he bought the hotel and it has been in the family ever since.

They were soon followed by their glamorous friends who came to enjoy this stunning part of Italy. Fast forward to 1979, and hotelier Roberto Scio loved it so much that he bought the hotel and it has been in the family ever since.
The hotel comprises a central building and cottages that are surrounded by an extensive garden, guest rooms and suites, and many of them have stunning views of the sea. Book the Argentario Suite for the maximum space; it includes two bedrooms and a private terrace with a private pool. Finishing touches in all rooms include toiletries specially made for the property as well as stylish beach bags.
Restaurant Il Pellicano serves truly authentic Italian cuisine by a Michelin-starred chef, and only the finest local produce, including lamb and freshly caught fish, is used. There’s also the Pelligrill Tuscan Grill for everyday dining. After dinner, head to Bar all’Aperto, where there’s usually piano music tinkling in the background, or Bar Roberto, where the walls are lined with vintage photos of legendary hotel guests.
By day, there is plenty to do, too. Start by taking the lift down to the sun deck where you can sunbathe, take a dip in the sea or grab a smoothie from the juice bar. The hotel also has a saltwater swimming pool, as well as the PELLICLUB health and beauty spa, a clothing boutique, fitness facilities and a tennis court. And, if you want to learn how to cook with Italian flair, lessons are available.
If you can bear to tear yourself away from the hotel, there are sightseeing opportunities nearby including the Roman ruins in Ansedonia and the medieval castle at Vulci. Or for the more active, there’s horseriding at Giannella Beach, swimming in the warm Saturnia sulphur baths and boat trips from the marina which is about ten minutes from the hotel gates.

The perfect harmony between vintage and modern style
Both suites have a large private terrace with panoramic views on the Argentario blue cost. One stands out for the harmonic mix between modern furniture and evocative details of the Tuscan sea houses from the 60s. This union is perceived in the geometrical style of the bathroom and in the patterns of the fabric of armchairs, beds and curtains. The second suite has a more rustic-traditional style: the fil-rouge is in the white walls, the terracotta floor and the wooden beams of the ceiling with the unique, elegant and never trivial style of our CEO and Creative Director Marie-Louise Sciò.Lowest rate

The rooms in the main house are fragrant with rosemary which undulates through the grounds in green drifts, or wander up to a garden villa for a more secluded stay. The feel is very Tuscan; swathes of alabaster white separate terracotta floor tiles from ceilings striped with dark rustic beams. Meanwhile contemporary creatives have left their mark in snappy cushion colours and glass walled bathrooms. Spacious bathrooms feature a delicious line of Pellicano lotions that capture the garden perfumes. The atmosphere nurtures cultured relaxation, film lists are compiled with Saverio Costanzo and Leonardo Colombati inspires guests with his list of 50 books to take to a desert island. Children below 8 years of age are not allowed in this property. Children aged 9 years and older are charged at the adult rate.
