To say that the views from the traditional Alpine chalet are breathtaking would be an understatement – the towering Matterhorn completes a winter wonderland scene that is positively idyllic. Within, the hotel is enchanting; the perfect blend of cosiness and class. Rooms vary stylistically: some offer subdued warmth with thick quilts, old-school furniture and exposed wooden rafters, while others are crisp and contemporary with high ceilings, crisp walls and jewel-toned pops of colour against a neutral colour scheme. Master suites offer an elegant balance of rustic mountain appeal and posh sensibilities, while the four-poster beds and marble bathrooms (complete with whirlpool bathtubs) make the Prestige Suites even more luxurious. Regardless of where you stay, you’ll have a private terrace from which to enjoy those spellbinding views.
Rise early and begin your day with a hearty breakfast in the inviting dining room. Homemade cakes and croissants are laid out alongside a thoughtful assortment of cheeses and cold cuts (all local); for a little extra fortification, order an omelette before heading out for the day. Return to the hotel for lunch with a view of the mountain, and again in the evening to “La Chandelle”, the hotel’s restaurant. Vintage table settings and antique decor set the mood and contrast quite nicely with delightfully innovative cuisine. End the evening with a glass of champagne and the sounds of live music in the intimate and inviting bar.
Skiing does quite a number on the body, and the spa has a remedy for every ache and pain. Whether you require a facial to restore wind-and-sun burnt skin, a pedicure to revitalize feet after a day spent in ski boots or a massage to simply ensure you can be back on the mountain bright and early the next morning, you’ll find it here. Alternatively, you could opt for a swim in the pool followed by a rejuvenating Turkish bath.
