The decor and furnishings are proudly Belgian; fixtures are locally made, and wall art commemorates artists like Hergé, Broodthaers and Magritte. Large marble bathrooms feel fresh and airy, and some rooms look out at the Hôtel de Ville. In the very best suites, rooftop terraces have spectacular city views. You can also opt to stay in the colourful René Magritte Suite which is as artsy and eclectic as the man it’s named after.
The hotel has one restaurant, the Italian Ristorante Bocconi, which also serves a lavish buffet breakfast in the mornings. The other in-house option for food and drink is an oh-so-stylish lounge called Bar A. Relax there in a sumptuous burnt orange chair with a cocktail in hand and a cheese plate before you. After dining at the hotel, the highly acclaimed fine dining Alexandre Restaurant is half a kilometre away, and the more casual Brasserie is even closer – quite literally just steps from the hotel. You’ll also want to stop by Corné Dynastie for a sampling of its famous chocolates as you explore the medieval streets
There are just two disappointments with an otherwise lovely hotel; the lack of a pool and the lack of a spa. Active guests will have to make do with the fitness centre which isn’t fancy but is reasonably well-equipped. For those seeking pampering, the fabulous Lum Spa is a 12-minute walk away. Also nearby is a wealth of things to do, no matter your interests. Swing by Grand Place’s flower market, visit the Magritte Museum and do be sure to stop into the temple to cartoons that is The Comic Strip Centre. On weekends, the neighbourhood of Sablon transforms into a lively market of art and antiques, while a ten-minute walk to the upscale Dansaert District will reward you with some of the very best restaurants and stores in Belgium.
