Just 53 accommodations comprise the Haymarket Hotel, ranging from the entry-level Luxury Rooms to the absolutely singular Townhouse. In line with the ethos of Kit Kemp, no two guest rooms are the same, and all showcase the fabulously eclectic handiwork of the woman who designed them. Drawing on elements of traditional British design, yet remaining relentlessly playful and fresh, the interiors are charming and whimsical with their bold use of patterns, delightful colour schemes and artistic accents throughout. Bathrooms are appointed in granite and oak and feel quite calm by contrast; all feature double washbasins and bathtubs, and in the suites, you’ll find deep-soaking standalone tubs. The Townhouse can be configured in arrangements of two to five bedrooms and features a spacious drawing room and fully equipped kitchen – all impeccably designed, of course.
Haymarket Hotel’s sole eatery is an all-day British brasserie with a cute backstory: it was named for Kit’s beloved dog. Called Brumus Bar & Restaurant, this vibrant spot has an eclectic interior with a fittingly creative ambience. Two- or three-course set menus are popular with the theatre-going crowd, and throughout, the cuisine leans towards the classics: think Steak and Ale Pie, Fish and Chips and Pea and Mint Soup. A snazzy cocktail list is the cherry on top, and a cheerful afternoon tea is served at Brumus as well. When the weather is favourable, guests can opt to dine outside.
As with many Firmdale properties, the Haymarket Hotel boasts a number of shared spaces: a conservatory, a library and a gym to name a few. Our favourite spot, however, is the indoor swimming pool. Sleek, unexpected and flanked by a bar, the swimming pool spans 18 metres beneath a ceiling covered with fibre optic lights and is illuminated by a constantly evolving light installation by Martin Richman.
