Centrally located at the junction of modern and historic Amman, the Grand Hyatt is an immediate stand-out. A gorgeous carved pink stone façade contributes to the hotel's eye-catching quality, as does its location atop one of Amman’s famed seven hills: the sites of the city's initial construction when it was settled back in the Neolithic period. Suffice it to say, Jordan’s capital city is rich with ancient history, but it’s equally saturated with modern culture; from ancient ruins to a phenomenal foodie scene, there’s so much to see and do – thankfully, the Grand Hyatt is well placed for doing just that.

Within, 311 guest rooms and 16 suites are an attractive blend of influences both classic and contemporary – very much a reflection of the city itself. Shades of cream, coffee and rose gold dominate the interior design scheme which is made to feel inviting with framed artworks and colourful flower arrangements set in oversized martini glasses. Marble bathrooms are spacious and stylish, but our favourite feature of the rooms has to be the large, elegantly panelled windows which let in plenty of sunlight and frame beautiful views of the city.

The hotel has a handful of dining options, the highlight of which is undoubtedly 32° North. Named for the restaurant’s geographic coordinates, this eatery serves all meals of the day in a contemporary dining room resplendent with beaded curtains and a glamorous fibre optic chandelier. The cuisine here is vibrant and international, featuring everything from grilled Scottish salmon to Indian aloo gobi alongside a good selection of traditional Jordanian dishes as well. A clever glass wall allows guests to watch the chefs at work – when they aren’t staring open-mouthed at the panoramic city views, that is. The lobby lounge is a chic environment for a light bite or a cocktail whenever you feel so inclined, while The Terrace is a romantic spot for drinks in the fresh evening air. The terrace’s sleek cocktail bar, chic furniture, pretty water features and intimate lighting complete the sultry, relaxing atmosphere.

Zara Is the hotel’s rejuvenating spa, in addition to which there is a hairdresser and beauty salon. Active guests can get in a workout in either the fitness centre or 17-metre indoor-outdoor swimming pool – the latter of which is surrounded by a pretty sundeck and plenty of loungers in case you’d rather tan than sweat.
