Grand-Hotel du Cap-Ferrat, A Four Seasons Hotel
About the hotel
"Situated on a particularly pleasing bit of coastline, the palatial Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat oozes Old World elegance with its decadent guestrooms, Provençal-Mediterranean cuisine and legendary poolside Club Dauphin."
Lalique crystals and Murano chandeliers adorn the opulent lobby, which is stunning white-on-white with gilded accents. Airy rooms are fresh as can be with crisp white linens, blonde wood furnishings and soft gold touches that echo the lobby’s splendour. Leather headrests perched on roomy marble tubs make the bathrooms feel particularly decadent (and make it hard to leave the bath). If you’re vying for the quintessential Riviera stay, book a room... If you’re vying for the quintessential Riviera stay, book a room towards the front of the hotel to snag yourself a view of the water. Private pools are few and far between at the hotel, but worth the splurge if you can manage to book one.
Club Dauphin claims to have one of the world’s most beautiful swimming pools, and we have to agree. The dazzling seawater infinity pool looks out at the even more dazzling Mediterranean, and the club will keep your glass of rosé (local, of course) topped off as you lounge beneath a white parasol. Kids (who are very welcome at the hotel), can take lessons here; you’d be hard-pressed to find a more stylish place to learn to swim.
Salads and grilled seafood can be had poolside, but for a more elegant meal, you’ll want to head to Le Cap. The cuisine there – a blend of Provençal and Mediterranean – is divinely fresh, and the ambience (al fresco, surrounded by gardens and palms) is romantic. A glass (or two) of champagne on the terrace of Le Bar is a splendid way to wind down the evening.
Active guests can take advantage of the hotel’s bicycles, tennis courts and well-equipped fitness centre (there’s also a running club for the ambitious and cardio-inclined). Less exertion is required to take a fun mixology class, while a tasting in the Salon des Collections will introduce you to the hotel’s spectacular wine cellar – the oldest bottles of which date back to the 1700s.

The five-bedroom Villa Beauchamp exudes a distinctly southern feel, with elegant finishes and neutral palettes marrying greens and blues to echo the colours of the sea and the surrounding vegetation. References to the South of France abound, most notably in the master bedroom, which has a magnificent bathroom mosaic floor with design patterns inspired by the work of Jean Cocteau, who famously transformed the walls of nearby Villa Santo Sospir into a dreamy space. Adjacent to the Villa is the Pavilion, an independent, fully equipped two-bedroom guesthouse that is the perfect retreat for friends, or for teenagers wanting a little more privacy.
