The Gleneagles Hotel Scotland
About the hotel
"A ‘Riviera in the Highlands’ set in the heart of the Perthshire countryside, the iconic Gleneagles Hotel is heaven on earth for outdoorsy types and boasts a world-renowned golf course."
Described as ‘a Riviera in the Highlands’ when it opened in 1924, this iconic country estate has long attracted those who enjoy the high life. In the beginning, guests came to stay and play golf, which is still one of the main attractions. The King’s Course, The Queen’s and The PGA National Academy Course are regarded as some of the world’s finest.
But the 850-acre estate offers so much more than golf. It’s an excellent place to embrace all that the great Scottish outdoors has to offer – a good blend of adventure and relaxation that’s hard to beat. What’s particularly great is that all the activities that grown-ups can enjoy, children can too. There are horse-riding lessons and trails for adults and riding and grooming miniature ponies for kids. There’s off-road driving,... Show more

There’s off-road driving, whilst little ones can try out scaled-down Land Rovers on special obstacle courses. The list of leisure pursuits goes on to include falconry, fly fishing, gun dog training lessons, mountain biking, clay shooting, archery and Segways to have a go at. All whilst enjoying the wild natural scenery that Scotland is famous for.
When you’ve pushed yourself to your limit for the day, kick off your muddy boots and get cosy indoors. There’s an award-winning spa where you can unwind with a treatment by ESPA, two indoor swimming pools (one just for adults) and a thermal suite. In fair weather, you can take a dip in the heated outdoor pool. There’s also a Beauty Lodge where you can try a new hairstyle and manicure colour, plus a gym with fitness classes including pilates and cardio workouts.
If you prefer to unwind back in your suite, each one embodies the spirit of Gleneagles: some feature fireplaces (perfect for cosying up with a glass of red) and some have rolltop baths for a good long soak before getting ready for dinner. There are several restaurants and bars, but Andrew Fairlie’s is Scotland’s only one that boasts two Michelin stars. His signature dish of lobster smoked over whisky barrel chips is legendary. For something a bit more casual, request a picnic basket to enjoy on the grounds, visit The Dormy for classic comfort foods like curries and pizzas or enjoy Italian-American fare in a relaxed garden setting at The Birnam.
