The 255 rooms are beautiful, as are the public areas (all were renovated in 2018). The overall style is understated and elegant, accommodating, comfortable and very much in sync with the local culture. Rooms are decorated in non-intrusive shades of beige and brown with one wall panelled in dusky blue. On that wall is a display of heritage-inspired Peranakan tiles, evoking memories of a bygone era. The overall colour scheme was inspired by the city’s gracious Swan Lake which, incidentally, is down the road in Singapore’s Botanic Gardens, the country’s only Unesco world heritage site and worth a visit.
If you’re looking for more space, the suites are pretty special. Entry-level Royal Suites start at 155 sq m (1,700 sq ft) and come with a spacious bedroom and bathroom, a work area, dressing table, living room, dining room and a kitchenette. All rooms and suites come with a Lavazza coffee machine and motorised blinds to block out the sunshine or night lights of your garden or city views.
