Il Lago is open for all meals (and has an excellent wine list), but make sure to have at least one lunch or dinner at the rooftop Izumi. There, you’ll dine on Japanese-Peruvian Nikkei cuisine with 360-degree views. Be sure to book Izumi in advance – the intimate restaurant is a popular one, and with only 25 seats, walk-ins are an impossibility. After dinner (or before it), pop by Bar des Bergues for a cocktail in this elegant, snazzy venue.
The hotel’s fitness centre is open 24 hours, and the building’s top three floors are devoted to Spa Mont Blanc, which has Turkish marble hammams, a rooftop heated indoor pool, a hair salon and – most delightfully – a library with a fireplace, where you can curl up with a book after being pampered.
Families are very much welcome here: children are lavished with gifts and snacks, and childproofing essentials are available to make rooms less hazardous to rambunctious little ones. The hotel will also arrange a babysitter should you want to explore without kids; the building is adjacent to the Point du Mont Blanc bridge – take it to cross the Rhône river, and you’ll find yourself smack in the center of town, with cafes, restaurants and the city’s best shopping just steps away.
