The Four Seasons Astir Palace Hotel Athens opened in 2019 to rave reviews. A triumph for the Four Seasons as its first foray into Greece, the rebooted property (at a cost of $650 million) is situated on the Athens Riviera just outside the city centre and directly on the beach. It boasts two swimming pools, several restaurants, a spa and hydrotherapy house inspired by the teachings of Hippocrates, a water-lover himself.

Athens city centre is only a half hour away, so a stay here offers you the best of both worlds. And if you have kids in tow, there’s probably nowhere else you would rather be. Kids are king at the Four Seasons and will be pampered: the Kids for All Seasons club will take the pressure off parents and allow everyone to holiday in style.

There are eight restaurants here, several bars and a cigar lounge. You can eat a resplendent breakfast in almost any outlet, although note that some may not be open off-season. There’s also plenty on the menus for kids and, with over 700 staff members, everyone of every age will be well and truly looked after. Rooms are serviced twice daily, and the concierge is well-informed and able to assist with even the most obscure requests including last-minute bookings to islands near and far.

When it comes to unwinding, you’re spoiled for choice. The gym is outstanding, the spa is sublime (and huge) and the afore-mentioned hydrotherapy house, The Fountain House, in the Greek tradition of taking the waters, has chill showers, a sauna, steam grotto, hydrotherapy pool and a hammam. Luckily for the ladies, there’s a hair and beauty salon here too. Back in the 1960s, Onasis, Bardot and Sinatra stayed here. You’ll know why when you get here – the setting is serene, sexy and slick.
