Appointed by Italy’s Piero Lissoni, they are elegant and refined with hardwood floors, bespoke furnishings, supremely comfortable beds and large bathrooms stocked with Bulgari amenities and fluffy, white towels. Superiors come with city views, but we highly recommend splurging to snag a room or suite with an Old City view and a balcony from where you can watch the setting sun (or the rising one, if you’re an early bird) over the Tower of David and the Old City skyline, an experience you’re unlikely to ever forget. There’s an executive level as well, with access to the elegant Executive Lounge where refreshments are served throughout the day; cocktails after 6.
Fuel up for a long day ahead with a copious breakfast (it’s included in the room rate) at Season’s Restaurant where, in the warmer months, you can dine al fresco. All meals of the day are served here, but if you’re looking for a more local menu, head to the Scala Restaurant that’s open only for dinner. Whatever you decide to have as a mains, save some room for dessert: the Mediterreanean Kadaif is outstanding.
There’s a spa on the premises, perfect for an hour or two of downtime after a heavy sightseeing schedule, and there’s a well-appointed gym, fitness classes on offer and, of course, the vast outdoor pool with its waterside grill bar that’s perfect for a salad, burger and a beer. However, the star of the recreational show here is the Children’s Play Centre which has some traditional Jerusalem themes incorporated into the design like markets and tunnels. It also has some nice additions for older kids like TV games, Fussball and mini football “fields”.
