COMO The Treasury, Perth
About the hotel
"A 48-room showstopper set in the heart of the city, the chic COMO The Treasury boasts stand-out guestrooms, a stunning indoor pool and an excellent bar that serves killer martinis."
The hotel was constructed within the disused Treasury, Lands and Titles offices and General Post Office buildings of the 19th century. Developed as a labour of love by the owner, the hotel, and its more public dining venues and small boutiques, convey a nice balance of modern style and preserved heritage. The level of detail and thoughtful consideration of the design are noticeable throughout the entire complex.

The reception area is neatly tucked into a private corner of the complex. It eschews traditional check-in desks and is configured instead as a residential living room. Fans of Aman hotels will recognise the interior design aesthetic of Perth-born Kerry Hill, a frequent collaborator in the design of Aman properties. Clean, modern lines, a subdued colour palette of neutrals and generous spaces are contemporary and not overly fussy.
The rooms and suites are real standouts. No two are identical, and even the entry-level category rooms are generously sized. So too are the travertine tiled bathrooms with heated floors, showers, deep bathtubs and delicious amenities from COMO Shambhala at Home. The rooms, decorated in natural hues of stone and bone, are graced with high ceilings, vast dormer windows and city or garden views. Some have Juliet balconies, and all have Illy coffee and tea-making facilities and minibars, the contents of which are complimentary (except the wine and spirits).
The indoor swimming pool is a stunner, and the well-equipped gymnasium has all of the latest equipment. The Shambhala spa offers the usual complement of massage and other treatments as well as yoga and Pilates classes in a relaxed facility.
Guests are welcome to extend the healthful Shambhala experience at the dining venues within the hotel: at Wildflower, or at the Italian restaurant, Post. But this is by no means essential, and, for those who like to indulge, tea in the Treasury Lounge and Bar in the afternoon is very special, as are the martinis that are shaken right here every evening.
