Speaking of residences, COMO’s are divine. Dotted around the magnificent landscape, these thatched-roof dwellings create the image of a utopian village. Within, the spaces are impeccably designed and a gorgeous fusion of contemporary luxury and timeless island design. The spaces are polished without trying too hard, and the furnishings and striking artwork are constructed almost entirely of organic materials, lending to the space an eye-catching array of textures and a unique sense of place. Each residence is kitted out with an abundance of posh perks: private pools, generously sized sundecks and outdoor baths included. Each is also serviced by a ‘tau’ – the Fijian word for friend – who will tend to your every need during the course of your stay. The only real difficulty with the residences is knowing which to pick. You might opt for an Udu Residence on the pretty peninsula, an overwater Wai Residence perched above the lagoon or a luxurious Plantation Residence, which enjoy their own private stretches of beach.
Dining at the resort is a love letter to island cuisine, and the gastronomy at large is focused on health, well-being and sustainability. In fact, much of the produce utilised is grown on the island itself, making the gastronomy a farm-to-table experience in the truest sense of the term. Plantation House is a restaurant set in – no surprise here – a classic plantation home. Visit here for a fine-dining experience and an excellent assortment of vintage wines. At the entirely opposite end of the spectrum is Seagrass Lounge and Restaurant: an inspired Pan-Asian spot set in a dazzling treetop location. Also placed in a memorable vantage point is Rock Lounge, which is a perfect place from which to watch the sunset with a cocktail in hand. Further drinks can be enjoyed at both the Pool Bar and the Beach Bar – the latter of which also serves killer barbecue.
