COMO Cocoa Island
About the hotel
"A sublime slice of tropical heaven, COMO Cocoa Island offers barefoot luxury in a tranquil setting – do some yoga, dine in style and dive amongst the colourful fish swimming by."
Physically, the resort island is very small. It takes a few minutes to walk from one side to the other and a truly exquisite, world-class beach encircles it and stretches out at one end along a picture-perfect sandbank. All villas are over-water along one jetty. With such a small area, facilities are limited, but perfectly formed: one restaurant, one pool, one gym (you get the picture). Everyone is generally in bed by about 10 pm, and there isn’t 24-hour room service either.

It takes a few minutes to walk from one side to the other and a truly exquisite, world-class beach encircles it and stretches out at one end along a picture-perfect sandbank. Everyone is generally in bed by about 10 pm, and there isn’t 24-hour room service either.
The One Bedroom Villas are set slightly apart from all the other over-water villas and do afford a degree of additional privacy. Accessed from the island via a short jetty, the exteriors are based on a traditional Maldivian boat called a dhoni. They feature a lofty, beamed and thatched roof with a wooden deck at the front (with access directly into the sea) and one again at the back for an outdoor shower. Inside the room, the bedroom is open plan with a large living area, a Nespresso machine and floor-to-ceiling windows that slide open, so there’s nothing between you and the fresh ocean air. Book a villa with a sunset view for unforgettable scenery, or choose one with a private infinity pool.
There is just the one restaurant, called Ufaa, which offers a broad range of foods but specialises in particular in fish and seafood as well as plenty of vegetarian, vegan and wellness options. The tuna carpaccio is of particular note, as is the Bluefin Jack ceviche, delicately flavoured and the perfect proportion size for a light dinner.
Como Hotels has a solid reputation in the industry for its focus on spa and wellness, and this one is no exception. The venue houses four treatment rooms, where you can unwind with a signature Shambala massage or a marine algae body wrap as well as a hydrotherapy circuit. The gym is housed above the spa pool, and complimentary yoga, meditation and Pilates classes are offered throughout the week. Kids aren’t left out of the wellness services here: there are child-friendly spa services and yoga classes, too. The main pool is a lovely spot, but the island’s principal draw is the dazzling white beach. If you’re in the mood for something more adventurous, you can join sunset fishing trips, learn something new in a cooking class or marine biologist session, snorkel among the sea turtles or stop by the water sports centre for windsurfing and kayaking in the lagoon.
