Interiors represent a breezy, streamlined interpretation of the property’s historic beauty, resulting in an ambience that is at once elegant, timeless and refreshing. Spacious accommodations come in seven different options to choose from and all – even the entry-level estate rooms – are wonderfully spacious. Authentic Tuscan charm is everywhere within, and interiors are set in countryside-inspired shades of olive, taupe and silvery greys. Wispy drapes and terracotta floors underfoot add to the romantic air, bathrooms have stand-alone tubs, and the views of the courtyard, garden or Tuscan landscape are the icing on the cake.
There are three venues for drinking and dining at the hotel, the star of which is undoubtedly La Torre. Helmed by executive chef Giovanni Luca Di Pirro, this Michelin-starred establishment is an ode to authentic Tuscan cuisine wherein the ingredients utilised are sourced from local farmers or from the gardens on the property itself. The constantly changing, seasonally inspired menu is inventive and unique, and in the warm weather, diners can eat outdoors on the pretty terrace. Pavilion is another outdoor option to visit in the warmer months; there you'll find al fresco Mediterranean fare and beautiful views of the hills. La Taverna – which is set in the castle's original 12th-century kitchen – has a relaxed and easy-going air. This family-friendly spot features classic Tuscan dishes and boasts a cosy open fireplace. Last (but certainly not least) is the Wine Cellar, which comprises not one but two stone cellars that were part of the original castle. Visit for phenomenal wine as well as olive oil tastings that include oils made on the estate itself.
Health-conscious guests are in for a treat at the estate thanks to COMO Shambhala Retreat at COMO Castello del Nero. A beautiful sanctuary that offers superb Asian-inspired treatments, this is also the place to visit for a yoga or Pilates class, a marvellously healthy nutrition plan or a quick swim in the pretty outdoor heated pool.
